Taylor Matheson, MSN, PMHNP

-

Taylor Joined MPP in October, 2023 (in the dual role of a psychiatric provider and the Assistant Medical Director, under Dr. Nockowitz). Taylor has a unique story, beginning his professional career as an enlisted member of the United States Marine Corps, and then transitioning into caring for those with psychiatric needs in the healthcare setting. He believes that empathic listening sits at the core of our ability to develop a deep understanding of the complex interplay between each patient’s unique biological, psychological, and psychosocial factors to provide effective holistic psychiatric care. He feels that we must first learn how to listen to our patient’s own goals and specific needs before we can effectively treat them. In turn, empathic listening, constructive patient education, and shared decision-making leads to the optimized emotional well-being of our patients. During his career, Taylor has learned to effectively treat patients of all ages across the lifespan, with a specific interest in those suffering from acute psychiatric decompensation in inpatient settings.

His training and experience includes:

  • Clinical training in Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Adult/Child Outpatient Psychiatry, and Adult/Child Inpatient Psychiatry
  • Bachelors in Science of Nursing, from the Ohio State University
  • Masters in Science of Nursing, with specialization in Psychiatry, from the Ohio State University
  • Member of the American Psychiatric Nursing Association
